Y6 Parents Update April 2018
27 Apr 2018
24th April 2018
We have a busy time ahead of us in Year 6 before they leave us, so thought an outline of key events would be useful for you.
This week, we have had ‘Mock SATs’ with the children, to give them a feel for what it will be like on the day; we have been very proud and pleased with how well they have worked. Your child should have brought home a form with their results on, and areas that they should try and revise over the next two weeks. They will also bring home the papers, should you wish to go through any questions with them.
SATs themselves will be held during the week beginning 14th May. Please see the timetable for actual dates and subjects.
On Friday 18th May, we will be going for a walk during the school day to Packington to unwind after SATs. Children are invited to wear non-uniform but must wear appropriate comfortable footwear (and socks!) for walking a long distance. We will stop for lunch so children will need a packed lunch (nut-free) and a water bottle. Children MUST carry their own inhalers and epipens throughout the day.
Ivanhoe Science Visit
On Friday 2nd June (2-3pm) Year 6 have been invited to Ivanhoe to participate in ‘Food for Thought’ activities. Please let us know if there are food allergies that we need to be aware of. The session will finish at 3:00pm, so we may be back at school slightly later than the end of the school day. If you give permission for your child to walk home independently from Ivanhoe, please email school and put ‘Permission to walk from Ivanhoe’ in the email subject.
End of Year Production
We are delighted to inform you that we will be putting on an end of year production this year entitled ‘Darwin Rocks’. We will be performing on Tuesday 4th July and Wednesday 5th July at 6:30pm and will be offering tickets for sale (2 per family per evening) nearer the time – a letter will follow.
In preparation for the production, we will be holding auditions for the parts during the week of 21st May.
There will be opportunities for children to audition for singing parts. For these auditions, children will be asked to perform a song of their choice – they may like to begin thinking about this if they think they would like to audition for a singing role.
Snowdome and Disco
During the final week of term, we will be going to the Snowdome on Wednesday 11th July (9:30am to 4:30pm). The cost of this will be £22.50 and a letter with details will follow soon. This exciting day out will then be followed by the Leavers Disco, very kindly organised by WASPS for all Year 6 at 6:00pm (to be confirmed)
Finally, on Thursday 12th July (the last day of term), we would like to invite you to their Leavers Assembly at 2:15pm during which we will be celebrating your children’s time at Willesley.
